Ideal for those who wish to reduce their environmental footprint and get some exercise while they travel, on this excursion our guestsenter the Hornopirén National Park, a reserve of pristine forests of unrivalled beauty and unusual and breathtaking natural attractions, such as the incomparably beautiful Lake Cabrera. The park is a national monument and part of the Southern Andes Rainforest Biosphere Reserve.

During the climb you’ll be able to fully appreciate Southern Chile’s beautiful temperate rainforest, ofmyrtle, tepa, cirguerillo, canelo (winter’s bark), ulmo and luma trees, just some of the remarkable specimens of vegetation that grow in the area, under the watchful eye of the Hornopirén volcano. We’ll also see where the tragedy of the lake took place, and the memorials placed by the families to those who were lost to the force of nature.

Bird lovers will be dazzled by the song and plumage of around 23 species who live in the park, such as the flying steamer, the condor, and the black woodpecker. Participants will be able to take a break for photos, or simply to enjoy their surroundings.

At the park entrance a Huilliche community preserves some of itstraditions and ancestral methods and techniques for living in harmony with the environment.

As you interact with the community, you’ll be able to get to know its people and learn about their traditions and ancestral customs, and discover their rich culture. You’ll also share in their everyday activities and learn more about natural medicine, their jobs and trades, traditional food and more.

Itinerary:

09:00 hrs:
Departure from Hornopirén to the lake to begin the trek.

13:00 hrs:
Arrival at the lake and time for photos and looking around the landscape and native flora and fauna as we enjoy a light snack

15:00 hrs:
Arrival at the lake entrance and a traditional meal with the Huilliche community that lives there, getting to know them and taking part in their everyday activities, while learning about natural medicine and observing their day-to-day life.

18:00 hs:
Arrival at Hornopirén and end of the activity.
