The name Hornopirén comes from the Huilliche language and means “snow oven” and is found at the northern entrance to theCarretera Austral (Southern Highway), nestled intoancient natural surroundings, at the foot of the Hornopirén Volcano where the Patagonian Cordillera - part of the Southern Andes - begins. This regionis known for its beautiful lakes, rivers and fiords that dare the visitor to measure themselves againstthis untamed wildness.
It currently has 6,583 inhabitants and endless attractions including the Hornopirén National Park, Lake Cabrera, the Coastal Route, Patagonian Canals, the Fiords of Quintupeu and Cahuelmó, hot pools and impressive geysers.
