Duration:
6 to 7 hrs.
Difficulty: Medium-High. Capacity: A minimumof 6 andmaximum of 10 participants.
Location: Entry from Chaqueihua about 8 kmfrom downtownHornopirén.
Timetable: Departure at 08:00 hrs; Return at 18:00 hrs.
Meeting Point: the Lahuán Cabins or Hornopirén Ramp (place to be agreed).
What to take: Trekking shoes, water bottle, sunglasses, sunblock, sunhat, suitable clothing, camera; walk carefully and follow the guide’s safety instructions.
Includes: Local guide, snack and transport.


A favorite for lovers of high altitude trekking, the volcano is 1572 meters high, giving an unrivalled view of the whole Hornopirén National Park. Protected by the national park, the Hornopirén and Yates volcanos proudlytower above the town of Río Negro, Hornopirén. Hornopirén is recognized for its sudden drops that thrill the adventurers who grab at the chance to make this amazing trip. We firsthike through previously impenetrable forest, until suddenly the mountain wind greets us,leading us to a huge forest home to endemic and native species such as the tepa, ulmo, alerce and other handsome locals that we may spot such as the stunning black woodpecker and the majestic condor,all part of the extraordinary biodiversity thriving in this southernmost part of the world, which takes you in as one of its own as you hike of the snowy southern Andes.
